Over the weekend something really fun and exciting happened. I adopted a puppy! It wasn’t 100% planned but it’s been something I’ve been thinking about for a few months now. I follow a large number of animal rescues and shelters on social media and earlier last week I saw that one of them, Saving Grace Animal Rescue, was going to be at a local pet store with some adoptable puppies and dogs. When Saturday rolled around I headed to the event with an open mind and ready to at least love on some puppers. We (my mom came along) got there just as they were setting up. They had a good amount of adorable puppies looking for homes in all shapes and sizes. I spotted a salt and peppered pup that looked a little nervous and overwhelmed. I sat down on the floor to give her some love and that’s when she just plopped into my lap. It’s said that when you adopt or get a pet, they should pick you out, and she was obviously telling me to take her home. I asked the rescue staff what I needed to do to bring her home and that’s all she wrote! I had to fill out an online form which I did right there in the store, which asked for three references. It’s funny how when you’re put on the spot for something like that you forget all your friends and family, plus their contact info. Your mind just goes blank. I settled on my sister, Aunt, and Uncle because I knew they were around as the references were being checked right away. My sister was the first to respond then the other two rolled in. I paid her adoption fee and then took her around the store to pick out new things for her new home! The nice part was her foster mom was there and able to show me the food they fed her, what toys she liked, and answer any questions I had.
As you can see, shes settling in nicely! Shes starting to come out of her shell some more which is great to see. The weather hasn’t been nice which means we haven’t done too much walking but she’s pretty much good to go on potty training! She’s starting to pick up on commands like “sit” as well. You can tell she’s super smart. She loves people and seems to be into other dogs as well. That’s not a surprise because her foster mom had 4 other dogs! She did really well when we took her to Petsmart with walking on her leash and checking things out. I can’t wait to start taking her out to explore! I’m 100% going to be one of those dog moms. She’s going to be beyond spoiled! And speaking of being one of those people, I started an Instagram for her! It’s WeWill_Roxie_You. Shout out to my friend Bon for helping with the name.
This is your warning now to expect more pupper content once the Spring & Summer roll around!
How cute! Congrats!
Thank you!
So adorable! Yay to getting a pup from a shelter, she’s gorgeous – and I’ve started following her on Instagram too.
Much love to you and your pup x
I hope you enjoy her photos!
Omg! She’s so cute! Congrats on your puppers! And I too am one of /those/ pet parents who had an insta for my pets!
I’m a sucker for a good puppy adoption story. She’s so cute! Post as many photos as you want.
